"Of all the things trauma takes away from us, the worst is our willingness, or even our ability, to be vulnerable. There's a reclaiming that has to happen." -Dr. Brene Brown, MSW

Duke City Mind Institute

Duke City Mind Institute was founded by Liz Gilbert in 2022, in response to the acute mental health needs she observed in her work in Early Intervention. Through her work she identified the need for additional mental health, trauma sensitive supports for individuals, families, couples and mental health providers.  From baby, to sibling, to caregiver, to individual, to providers; all need a place to be seen, heard and held. Her hope is that Duke City Mind Institute will meet this need.

Mission

Our mission is to provide high quality, trauma sensitive, strength-based counseling, and professional support, to enhance and empower the lives of children, adults, couples, families and mental health providers.

Values

We look at mental health from a holistic, systems perspective, identifying areas that might be causing disruption. Our agency is committed to providing the support all individuals need to thrive.

Framework

We at Duke City Mind Institute believe that all human beings have the capacity for change. Our clinicians help individuals, families, and couples find their strength to move into a more positive, healthy existence. We do this through utilizing strength-based interventions; with CBT, Solution Focused, EMDR and Trauma informed practices.
